5K VIP Happy Hour at Boa – 5/21

The countdown has officially begun for Party With Purpose’s 9th annual 5K race along the Hudson River in Hoboken, NJ. We’re 2 months away from race day and have had individuals, kids, and teams sign up. We’re looking forward to a celebrity appearance by the employees of Hoboken’s own Carlo’s Bakery, who formed a team and will be running.

PWP invites all runners, sponsors, and donors to a special Happy Hour celebration on May 21, starting at 6pm at the newest nightclub in Hoboken, Boa (located at 92 River Street). There will be drink specials and prizes, so bring some friends and join us as we toast to our 2013 race. May it be the biggest and best one yet!

Arts & Music Festival Recap

Thanks to all of our visitors who stopped by our PWP tent this Sunday at the Hoboken Arts & Music Festival. We had some runners sign up for our 5K run (and one lucky participant won a free entry!) We’ll be giving away more entries to the race, so make sure you’re following us on Facebook and Twitter.

Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K – Team HobokONE Raises $5,000 for Charity

On Sunday, April 28, over 1,600 runners and walkers gathered in Weehawken, NJ to run in the annual Lincoln Tunnel Challenge to benefit the Special Olympics of New Jersey. Party With Purpose members joined team HobokONE—the largest group registered with 50 people—and raised $5,000 total for charity. Runners ran through the tunnel (under water, of course) from New Jersey to New York, and then back again. We’re happy to continue the running tradition in the Hoboken area and hope you were able to come out and get in shape for our upcoming 5K on July 16th!

Run For Boston – Show Your Support

Our thoughts are with Boston today as the nation watches the city rebuild after the heartbreaking events last week. Out of tragedy, have come stories of triumph, heroism, and the conviction of the human spirit. Running is symbolic of so much more than just solitary miles logged. It creates an entire community, and in times like these we are happy to reach out and help our fellow members.

Another way you can show your support is by purchasing a “Run For Boston” t-shirt from New York Road Runners. Available in cotton or tech, these shirts are a great way to present a united front at the next race you sign up for. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the One Fund. Special additional awards will go to runners by gender and age group who perform consistently well in their respective categories.

Karate Uniform Donation

After Hurricane Sandy, Party With Purpose raised over $10,000 to help people affected by the storm. We heard about a local karate program—Jin-Che-Fway Karate—in Hoboken that provided free classes to kids on the western edge of town in the Housing Authority. They lost their uniforms in the flood, so we contacted their teacher, Sensei Ray Rodriguez, to see how we could help. Some of our board members attended an exhibition where the children were sparring for their parents and quickly learned that not only is Sense Rodriguez teaching self defense, but he is also teaching the kids self-discipline, respect, and responsibility. We knew we wanted to help and surprised the kids by showing up with brand new karate uniforms.

We also heard the great news that one of the 12-year-old karate students, Shekea, just won first place at the 2013 All American Open Tae Kwon Do – Karate – Kung Fu Championships on March 16.

“Shekea is a wonderful student. Hard-working, helpful, and a very rare find,” says Rodriguez. Now that she won first place, he says, “we are looking forward to the next one! I’d once again like to thank Party With Purpose for helping us at the Jin-Che-Fway Karate School.” Since then, their team has grown and more kids want to join the program.

2013 Winter Benefit Success!

Party With Purpose celebrated our 10th Anniversary on February 21, 2013 and with it came an incredible celebration in The Chandelier Room at the W Hoboken that was not to be missed!

DJ Erik Floyd kept the party going all night, while the incredible Vanity Belles showcased their cosmo country duo songs in a live performance. Skeery Jones, of Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show, was the special emcee for the evening with a live auction for concert tickets. Grant recipients from 2012 and 2013 were honored as the drinks flowed, delicious food was provided and a special 10th anniversary Party With Purpose cake was donated from Carlo’s Bakery. Sponsors included W Girls, Inflexion Interactive, and Havens Savings Bank.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at the 2013 Winter Benefit—partners, sponsors, donors, attendees, and countless volunteers—and helped us surpass last year’s fundraising total by 43% to raise $26,000! This money will be donated directly to our local beneficiaries throughout 2013.

Hurricane Relief Funds Update

After Hurricane Sandy devastated our hometown of Hoboken, we created a fund to raise money for relief. To date—exactly three months after the hurricane hit—we’ve raised over $11,000…and counting. The PWP grant committee will be allocating $5,000 of that total amount towards the Rebuild Hoboken Relief Fund, a not-for-profit set up in the wake of the hurricane to provide help to individuals, businesses, and local charities who have unmet needs. We will analyze the rest of organizations who filled out applications for aid and continue to give back to the community. Check back for more details.
